Well, my name is Willem Van Hemert and I moved to Alaska, here, just after I got married, which is a little bit over 40 years ago. I've got 3 kids--they're all grown and have their own families. And I've been in the engineering business for that whole time I've been here--all in the private sector.
I got to know Alaska Financial probably about four or five years ago. My investment adviser recommended I go see one of their presentations. I did do that. I was impressed; it was a model that I could kind of get my head around. I've been in real estate, myself, for a number of years, so I knew how it could work and it looked like they were eager and they didn't have a whole lot of overhead, so I gave it a shot.
I really liked their model of providing a basic return and making the investor the prime person; whereas otherwise, it seems like the broker--he gets his money no matter what you do. But with this, we also get our money, so I liked that part of it.
I want to go back to their model. They have a model that makes sense. They've got an investment strategy that has little risk to it and I can believe their returns. So, it's not a promissory thing; you're getting that return every quarter from your investment and I liked that part of it and it's come to be true. They live up to their expectations and I'm very happy with them.
I had a second round of investments; we rolled some of the money over into a new program and we added to that amount and I was happy with their performance. I felt good about it. I talked to my financial adviser and he recommended that I do it. So we rolled some more money into it--I think about a year ago--and we've been happy with those results and we would continue to do so in the future.
Well, I'd recommend Alaska Financial because they've got a good program and I wouldn't feel bad because they don't take risks. So it's not like your money goes up and down, like in stocks, and you hope you're having a good day. It's a continuous, dependable amount of return that you're getting on your investment, and so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to somebody else.
I'm a very conservative investor and so I--everybody--has to look at their own balance sheet and see how much they have. But, to have a little bit extra or they got a whole lot of money in the bank that's getting less than a quarter percent of interest, I'd strongly recommend this, because during these times this is a very good alternative as far as being safe and conservative.
